Argentina opened the International Super Series Hockey 9s in fine style defeating Canada 4-1. Captain Luciana Aymar and Agustina Albertarrio were damaging throughout for Las Leonas (The Lionesses) scoring once in each half to demonstrate that they will be extremely tough to beat this week.

Canada got in the spirit of the Hockey 9s style by dancing their way onto Perth Hockey Stadium for their International Super Series debut but it was Argentina who got their campaign off to a quick start by scoring early goals on the reverse stick.

It was two-nil within seven minutes when first Aymar, then Albertarrio found the back of the net as the Lionesses, had more than their share of the ball and dominated the opening exchanges.

Canada spent much of the first 20 minutes digging out of their own half but cut the deficit at the half to 2-1 when Rachel Donohoe scored with an opportunistic effort three minutes before the break.

Argentina jumped out again after the restart to make things difficult for their opponents. Seven-time World Player of the Year Aymar was on the spot from a goalkeeper deflection and within the blink of an eye it was 4-1 in favour of Las Leonas after Albertarrio’s second.
